Public areas affected by the oil spill will be progressively reopened after the next phase of cleaning is completed. This phase will be more complex in nature as it involves more difficult to clean areas like rock bunds, breakwaters, and oil trapped deeper in the sand. It is expected to take around 3 months. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu was providing an update on oil spill clean-up operations at a Ministerial Press Conference on 24 June 2024.
