Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday criticized President-elect Trump’s suggestion of trying to seize control of Greenland. “We’re stronger, we’re more effective, we get better results when we’re working closely with our allies, not saying or doing things that may alienate them,” he told reporters alongside his French counterpart in Paris. “The idea expressed about Greenland is obviously not a good one, but maybe more important, it’s obviously one that’s not going to happen, so we probably shouldn’t waste a lot of time talking about it.” The president-elect on Tuesday refused to rule out using military or economic coercion to seize control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, arguing that both were critical for U.S. security. “No, I can’t assure you on either of those two. But I can say this, we need them for economic security,” he told reporters during a lengthy press conference at Mar-a-Lago. Watch more at c-span.org
